Swab test

As with progesterone testing, cytology can be useful in detecting ovulation, but without the need for blood drawing. It needs, however, to be done on an ongoing basis as, like a book, it tells a story of the oestrus cycle. Epithelial cells are taken on a swab and looked at under the microscope. The cells change shape and make formations throughout the cycle so if using this method, it is important to have a series of swabs over several days in order to see the progression of cells. It is a simple, painless procedure.

Results are available from Breed Right Canine and Fertility Breeding services in just a few minutes.

Our Cytology service is £15 per test.
